About Andrew

As a kid I wasn’t blessed with a lot of agility. Despite my height, playing basketball wasn’t much fun at that age.

But the music requirement in middle school changed my life. At age eleven I picked up a euphonium – sort of a junior-sized tuba – and played my first note. It felt like a natural fit, and it didn’t hurt that my long body gave me twice the lung capacity of other kids.

In the following years – and with a lot of practice – I made the Austin Westlake High School marching band, then section leader, then our high school wind ensemble, and then was honored as all-state tuba player two years in a row.

In 2008 I entered LSU on a music scholarship and began to study and practice the tuba at the LSU School of Music.

The physical conditioning required of LSU Tiger Marching Band got me into better shape, and in 2010 I walked onto the LSU men’s basketball team.

I was definitely not prepared for people’s reaction to hearing that a Tiger Band tuba player had joined the LSU basketball team.

Today my LSU sweetheart and I are married and raising two young boys in Virginia Beach, VA.

And yes, our boys are tall.
